Surroundings
Umbria and Tuscany
Hillocks of olive trees, a medieval town on each hilltop and a piazza for an espresso everywhere. Casa Tre Pettirossi is located right in the middle of it, in the hills near Mantignana, between Perugia and Lake Trasimeno.
Here are our favorite day trips, with the travel time by car from our house. If you stay longer, Florence and Rome are also great day trips.
Day trips from our house

Perugia
Chocolate, jazz and a medieval center high on the hill, where you can get there by train.

about 15 minutes
Lake Trasimeno
Swimming in soft, warm water, taking the boat to an island and fishing from the lake in the evening.

about 50 minutes
Gubbio

Five minutes
Around the corner: Corciano
Our own village is five minutes away and is on the list of I Borghi più belli d’Italia, the most beautiful villages of Italy. Walk through the medieval gate to the piazza, order an espresso and look out over the valley. In August, Corciano celebrates the Agosto Corcianese, with music, art and historical processions.
At the beginning of October, wineries will be offering their wines in the streets during Corciano Castello di Vino.
Agenda 2027
Parties, wine and olive oil: this is on the calendar every year. The exact dates for 2027 will be announced soon; check the event website before your trip.
Spring and autumn are perhaps our most beautiful seasons: green and blooming in May and June, wine, olives and truffles in the fall. And quieter and more affordable than the heart of summer.
In May

Early May
Calendimaggio, Assisi
Assisi celebrates spring: the upper and lower city compete in medieval costumes, with music, singing and processions under the light of torches.

May 15
Festa dei Ceri, Gubbio
Three wooden ‘ceri’ weighing about 400 kilograms are carried up the mountain in a parade, by a frenzied crowd. One of the wildest parties in Italy.

End of May
Cantine Aperte
For a weekend, the wineries of Umbria open their doors: tastings, guided tours and lunch among the vines.

May 30, 2027
Infiorata of Spello
On the night before Corpus Domini, the residents of Spello, near Assisi, lay carpets of flower petals through the streets. In the morning you walk through a city full of flowers.
In June
In June, Umbria is at its most beautiful: long evenings, blooming fields and the lake warm enough to swim in. You can plan your trip around this.

Second half of June
Mercato delle Gaite, Bevagna
Bevagna steps back into the Middle Ages. The four neighborhoods showcase old crafts, and in the taverns you can eat dishes from that time.

End of June – mid-July
Festival dei Due Mondi, Spoleto
Opera, theater, dance and concerts in the squares and theaters of Spoleto. The closing concert in the Piazza del Duomo is a feast.

Half June – half July
Flowering in Castelluccio
On the plateau of Castelluccio, the lentils fields are colored red, yellow and blue by poppies, cornflowers and mustard. About two hours away, and worth every minute.
In July and August

July
Umbria Jazz, Perugia
Ten days of jazz, blues and soul in the squares and theaters of Perugia. Many outdoor concerts are free.

July
Palio delle Barche, Passignano
The neighborhoods of Passignano compete in historical costumes: rowing on the lake and running with the boat on their shoulders through the town.

Around August 10th
Calici di Stelle
Tasting wine under the stars in the wine towns, around the night of San Lorenzo, when you see shooting stars.

August
August Corcianese
Our own village of Corciano celebrates the summer with music, art, food and historical processions.
Autumn and winter
Wine festivals, olive harvest and truffles: autumn is the time to try them.

September
UmbriaWine, Perugia
A wine festival in the middle of Perugia: dozens of Umbrian wineries are offering tastings and masterclasses in the squares of the city center.

Early October
Corciano Castle of Wine
Our own village celebrates wine. Wine cellars offer tastings in the medieval streets, with delicious local food and music. Five minutes from our house.

Autumn
Eurochocolate, Perugia
A city full of chocolate, with stalls, tastings and huge chocolate sculptures.

October – November
Frantoi Aperti
The oil mills of Umbria open their doors on weekends. Try the new oil, freshly pressed, on a warm bruschetta. We also harvest it here.

End of October – beginning of November
White truffle, Gubbio
The market of the white truffle: the smell hangs around the whole city.

December – January
Christmas tree from Gubbio
On the slopes of Monte Ingino stands the largest Christmas tree in the world, made of lights. You can see it from miles away.
